BAD COMPANY!!!

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Many times I am asked if by avoiding certain people are we not showing a good Christian attitude. I always refer back to this scripture when in doubt of how to handle a particular person. You always have to show the love of Christ to everyone but, if there is a person that when you get around you they bring you down or lead you down a path of temptation you have to avoid them. When a drug addict gets clean, the first thing he has to do is evaluate his friends. The people that he had been around that continue to do drugs, he has to avoid. What we must understand is we are all drug addicts and sin is the drug. If there is a person that brings down your attitude, leads you into old sinful habits, or behaves in a way that does not show a Christian attitude you have to separate yourself from them. You have to share with them what is going on, but if they cannot change those habits you cannot follow along with them. This doesn't mean you mistreat them and it doesn't mean that you don't pray for them, it just means you prevent yourself from getting into a situation that can hurt your relationship with Christ. There is nothing that is more important than your relationship with Christ and anything that hurts that has to go, good or bad. When all is said and done though, pray for that person or persons.
God Bless!!
Pray!

I believe you can guard your spirit from the enemy without pulling away from family and friends who are not quite what you think they should be in Christ. Maybe the life you lead in front of them would lead them to Christ faster than if you pulled away. I had a similar experience in my life. Someone very special to me led me back to the Lord after many years of hurt. I will treasure that person forever. If you don't go around someone because they are not the Christian you feel they should be, their blood could be on YOUR hands. Love is not neglect, love is sharing and loving and being there in life as well as prayer. God hears our prayers but He also sees our actions.

I understand what you are saying, and you are right. My meaning in this was, you cannot hang aroundthe same old crowd constantly and stay where you should be with Christ. You are right, you cannot reach people if you are never around them, but you cannot continue to go to the club with them either and think that you are going to reach them. It might happen with one or two but a maority of people will se you as the same as them. I do not advocate turning your back on people as if there is nothing to it. I say it is better to step away from someone that will continue to pull you away from God. On a side note, once you have shared the truth with them their blood is not on your hands because you choose to walk a different way. Thanks for commenting though, it was awesome to hear from someone.

Thanks for your comment. I understand more about what you are saying now. The closer I get to the Lord, the more I "notice" things in others that I just don't want to be around anymore. My goal is to be more like Christ, to be a witness for Him, and be separated from old temptations and trials. Thank you for caring. God bless you.
